My work
is primarily acrylic paint and markers on canvas. My paintings are typically
very loyal representations of my smaller drawings, sketches that quickly and
boldly capture the energy of inspiration. I make them larger by projecting them
onto canvas and rendering them in paint. This allows me to place them in the
tradition of painting, as well as offer a more expansive viewing experience.
My
subject matter is very personal and composed of inspiration from everyday life:
scenes, objects, dreams, nightmares, emotions, education, experience. Common
subjects are animals, icons, the body, and the tension between the natural
world and the synthetic.
My work is heavily influenced by
the history of art, and is often referential. It is also playful, irreverent,
garish, bright, and spirited. While deeply rooted in art history, I am also
heavily influenced by punk, graffiti, fashion, interior design, and kitsch.
